The Creative Process Behind Emi Conner Jewelry
Finding inspiration in color, nature, and meaningful beauty
People often ask me where my jewelry ideas come from. The truth is, inspiration is everywhere — in colors, in nature, in beautiful details that quietly stop me in my tracks.
At Emi Conner Jewelry, every design begins with a feeling before it becomes a sketch. Most often, it starts with color.
Sometimes it’s a color palette I unexpectedly fall in love with — the soft blue of the ocean paired with warm sunlight, the romantic blush of blooming petals, or the earthy elegance of mossy greens beside creamy neutrals. I am endlessly inspired by how colors interact and tell a story together.
Every design begins with a feeling before it becomes a sketch.
The Language of Gemstones
Other times, inspiration begins with gemstones themselves.
Over the years, I’ve collected gemstones simply because they felt special — an unusually soft aquamarine, a dreamy romantic peach Morganite and sapphire, a vibrant green Emerald, an opal with beautiful character, or a gemstone whose color immediately sparks an emotion. I often find myself arranging stones together like an artist mixing paint, exploring combinations until a story begins to unfold.
I collect gemstones because they inspire me. From aquamarines and sapphires to opals and other unique treasures, each stone carries its own beauty, symbolism, and story. Often, a single gemstone is all it takes to spark a new design and begin a creative journey.
Inspiration from the Garden
Nature also deeply influences my creative process.
Outside of jewelry, one of my greatest joys is gardening — especially growing cut flowers and creating simple flower arrangements. I spend many mornings and evenings in my garden, watching flowers bloom, noticing their colors, textures, and movement. A delicate petal shape, a cluster of blossoms, or an unexpected combination of colors can quietly plant the seed for a future design.
When my garden overflows with blooms, I love arranging them into simple bouquets and floral arrangements to share with others. I often place them on a small flower stand in front of my house and sell them in my neighborhood. The process of gathering flowers, pairing colors, and creating arrangements brings me so much joy and inspires me in unexpected ways.
Some of my favorite ideas have come from simply being surrounded by beauty — the soft layering of petals on a peony, the graceful curve of a vine, the way sunlight catches a flower after the rain.
Designing jewelry is not only about creating something beautiful. It is about translating emotion into something you can wear.
At Emi Conner Jewelry, I believe beauty is healing. Beauty can remind us of meaningful moments, celebrate love, and bring light into everyday life. And sometimes, it all begins with a flower blooming quietly in the garden.
