Emerald pulses with life and vitality. In its depths beats the heart of the rain forest, its shadows alive with promise, expectation... even danger. More valuable than even diamonds, fine-quality Emeralds of significant size are among the world’s most bewitching jewels. Their incomparable dark green color is produced only under extremely rare conditions. Because these conditions also result in tiny cracks and cavities in the stone, inclusions are acceptable in top-quality Emeralds. Ancient history records Emerald mines near the Red Sea, “Cleopatra’s Mines,” where the Pharaohs gathered gems between 3000 and 1500 B.C. The Incas and Aztecs of South America once worshiped Emerald as a holy stone. And Maharajahs of India, who believed the gem brought luck and restored health, had multitudes of Emeralds in their treasure vaults. The green of Emerald is representative of life and springtime. In ancient Rome, it was the color that symbolized the beauty and love of the goddess Venus. Perhaps this is why Emerald is the gem chosen by love birds to celebrate their 20th, 35th or 55th wedding anniversary. Emerald is also the gemstone of choice for those born in May as well as those born under the sign of Virgo. As a member of the Beryl family of gems -- cousin to Aquamarine and Morganite -- Emerald is found in Afghanistan, Columbia, Zimbabwe, India, Pakistan, and Russia.

Emerald is a stone of inspiration and infinite patience. It is a life-affirming stone with great integrity. Known as the "stone of successful love," it brings domestic bliss and loyalty. It enhances unity, unconditional love, and partnership and promotes friendship. Emerald keeps a partnership in balance. Emerald has traditionally been used as a stone of Love because of its ability to clear and strengthen the physical and emotional heart centers. It helps us view all events, circumstances and people in our lives by assisting one in practicing compassion and respectful understanding of others. If it changes color, it is said to signal unfaithfulness. Love and compassion are the emotions which most truly reflect one's Divine nature, and they are the rightful focus and aspiration of those on the spiritual path. It is the stone that helps one to live and act from the heart level, offering unconditional love and compassion in one's daily life and relationships, opening one to receive love from others and clearing the channel for one's own connection with Divine Love. Emerald can help one stayed centered in the heart's wisdom, so one is not misled by ideas which sound reasonable but are not truly 'paths with heart.' Emerald can help one to heal 'heartbreak', and to remember to give love to oneself as well as others.

Emerald opens the heart chakra* and has a calming effect on the emotions. This stone ensures physical, emotional, and mental equilibrium. It eliminates negativity and brings in positive actions. Focusing intention and raising consciousness, it brings about positive action. An open heart allows the cornucopia of universal blessings to flow into one's life, and perhaps this is why

Emerald is also known as a stone of prosperity. Wearing Emerald helps attune one's vibrational pattern to the spectrum of abundance, allowing one to attract what one needs and desires.

Emerald has also traditionally been used to stimulate both wealth and abundance. Wealth represents one's physical and material possessions and financial standing. Emerald assists one in creating wealth by removing thoughts and feelings of unworthiness from one's energy field. When these blocks are removed, wealth can naturally develop if desired. Emerald also assists in experiencing true abundance, which is not the same as wealth. Abundance describes one's ability to receive the gifts of Spirit within all of life's experiences. It is a sense of opening one's life to the Divine and embracing all its manifestations with gratitude. True abundance is knowing that all is provided and that there can be no lack in reality.
It enhances psychic abilities, opens clairvoyance*, and stimulates gathering wisdom from the mental planes. Traditionally, emerald was said to protect from enchantment and the ploys of magicians, and to foretell the future.

Emerald is also a stone of courage—another emotion which emanates from the strong and open heart. It helps one move forward on the 'path with heart,' regardless of any threats or dangers which seem to threaten one. Emerald gives the strength of character to overcome the misfortunes of life. It is a stone of regeneration and recovery and can heal negative emotions. It enhances the ability to enjoy life to the fullest. It is helpful in cases of claustrophobia. Emerald is a wonderful emotional healer. It allows one to display one's compassionate, caring nature without fear of vulnerability. It encourages one to trust the Divine in all things and to surrender one's personal version of what reality 'should' be. Emerald can assist in overcoming feelings of unworthiness, fear of scarcity and abandonment. It encourages acceptance of others without judgment or imposition of one's own views of reality.

Emerald imparts mental clarity, strengthens memory, inspires a deep inner knowing, and broadens vision. It is a wisdom stone, promoting discernment and truth, and aiding eloquent expression. It helps bring to the surface what is unconsciously known. Emerald is extremely beneficial to mutual understanding within a group of people, stimulating cooperation.
